These symptoms are causes by a drastic unbalancing of your hormones during the last week or two of your menstrual cycle which in themselves to not hurt you, but they cause other body systems such as mood regulation to not work properly.

Not every women suffers form all of these symptoms, but to have actually PMDD and not what is classed as just 'bad PMS' you need to have five of these items present in the last week of your menstrual cycle, but you also need to have at least one of symptom be in the first 5 of the list opposite.

These symptoms must not last beyond the onset of bleeding also. If you are suffering some after this time it might be a sign of another underlying condition which is aggravated by PMDD, but exists on its own as well. You should seek more advice for this separately - though the same hormonal imbalance might be a cause of this even outside of the last few weeks!
